Yesterday, a storm swept through my neighborhood, leaving behind seven inches of thick, heavy snow. The kind of snow that demands attention—not the fluffy powdery stuff, but the dense, wet kind that clings to shovels and snowblowers. Clearing it from my driveway, sidewalks, and walkways was no small task. It took over an hour, a bit of elbow grease, and plenty of determination.

After the hard work was done and a layer of salt was sprinkled to keep the walkways safe, I decided to celebrate my efforts in the most childlike way I could think of: making a snow angel.

I walked to the perfect patch of undisturbed snow in my front yard, took a deep breath, and fell back—arms and legs flailing in rhythmic joy. For a moment, I was 10 years old again, marveling at the cold snow against my leggings and the pure, unfiltered magic of playing in nature. My cheeks flushed, and a grin spread across my face.

The moment was sheer bliss.

Then reality set in: How am I going to get up from here without wrecking my angel? I laughed at the comedy of being 47 and thought, A hand to help me up would be nice. But to my surprise, getting up wasn’t as hard as I feared. The experience left me wondering, Why don’t I do this every time it snows?

Joy is in the Doing

It’s easy to get caught up in the grind—focusing on responsibilities, productivity, and crossing items off our endless to-do lists. But when was the last time you paused to do something just because it makes your soul light up?

For me, joy lives in the little things: dancing to loud music, rolling down a grassy hill, walking barefoot in the dewy grass, picking up interesting rocks, crafting, painting, or even jumping in a puddle after a rainstorm. These small acts connect me to something deep within—a sense of childlike wonder, freedom, and presence.

In yoga, joy is considered a state of Ananda—pure bliss that arises not from external circumstances but from within. This inner joy is always available to us, waiting to be uncovered when we slow down and give ourselves permission to play, explore, and savor the moment.

The Courage to Follow Joy

It’s not always easy to prioritize joy. We fear looking silly, wasting time, or neglecting more “important” tasks. But what if doing the things that light you up is the important task? What if those moments of joy are what sustain you, grounding you in the present and reminding you of what it means to truly live?

At The Creatrix, we believe that transformation starts in these moments—when you listen to your inner wisdom and allow yourself to trust the flow of life. Whether you’re stepping onto your yoga mat, meditating, or making a snow angel, the act of choosing joy is a radical practice of self-care and authenticity.

An Invitation

So, what brings you joy? What small, simple things make you feel alive, connected, and at peace?

This week, I invite you to take a few moments to reflect on what fills your cup. Make a list, and then choose one thing to do—whether it’s dancing in your kitchen, digging your hands into the earth, or even falling backward into the snow.

The world needs your light, and you deserve to shine.

Let’s embrace joy together, one small act at a time.
